"Very few these days, but yes, there are," Again, he couldn't imagine any of them allowing themselves to be ridden. Now a vishap... no, despite being smaller and weaker than dragons, Neuvillette very much doubted any vishap would cooperate with a human.
"A predominantly human body. But your guess would be as good as my own as to how or why I was reborn as I am. It's a question I ask myself often," He muses.
It doesn't escape his notice the way she'd immediately averted her gaze. Was it reverence? Whatever the reason, it's unnecessary, "If you no longer wish to participate, I understand."
“When you say predominantly… that explains your eyes, ears, and colouring…” Now that she knew Violet could see the similarity of Neuvillette’s eyes to Tairn’s gold eyes. Risking it, Violet lifted her head and peaked up, meeting his eyes for a moment before looking back down.
“Can you breathe fire? Or have claws?” He hadn’t said anything or seemed to get angry when she was looking him in the eyes so maybe it was safe… Violet wasn’t sure she wanted to risk it.
His own eyes are certainly distinct. The slitted pupils would be enough but they're a pale array of violets and purples that darken to the outline of a silver pupil.
His expression remains unchanged though something about it now gave the impression of subdued amusement at her questions.
"I am what people refer to as a hydro dragon. I cannot breathe fire, though I can create and control water. And," He turns his hand to display his fingernails, impeccably manicured and kept short, though it looks like they might naturally grow into points, "I try to keep them well maintained.
The dragons you rode, did they both have a pyro affinity?"
“A hydro dragon…” Violet couldn’t help herself, she looked up again to meet Neuvillette’s eyes before she studied him quickly. The blues in his hair, the violet in his eyes… Violet could see it. After a quick study she looked down again.
“Yes. Well yes and no. Train can breathe fire but Andarna is just a youngling and can’t breathe fire yey. She will when she gets older. Can you breathe underwater?” It was one of the many questions that had popped into Violet’s head because she was curious. She couldn’t help herself. A water dragon! This was exciting.
"I see. And they are... the size of horses? Or larger?" They sound like vishaps to him At least, that's the word they use for them. Pyro attuned vishaps that will, potentially, one day, become true dragons.
"I can, yes," He says with a nod. Honestly, it seems she prefers their current conversation to whatever else they were intended them to be doing, but he's completely content with this course of events as well.
"Do all the dragons in your world breathe fire?" He asks, wondering if perhaps that specific kind of dragon has made some pact with humans. It wasn't unheard of.
“Tairn is huge.” There was a smile on Violet’s face now along with pride in her voice. “Bigger than any other dragon except for Codagh while Andarna is only a couple of feet taller than me. But she is a youngling and will grow.”
They were exchanging information and talking about dragons. That subject alone had Violet distracted from the intended purpose of the room. She still couldn’t believe that she was talking to a water dragon who was openly offering information.
“Yes. They all breathe fire. If you are a hydro dragon does that mean there are other elemental dragons where you come from?”
He's curious what 'huge' means but the likelihood that their worlds share something as specific as forms of measurement is unlikely. It sounds like Andarna is roughly the size of a small vishap though. It gives him some context at least.
"Curious that they all have an affinity for fire.
And... yes," He answers reluctantly, "There are very few beings who would be considered dragons in Teyvat. Once they were plentiful, but no longer. I know of only a few dragons aside from myself. Of those, none are fire. But yes, there are one or two dragons of other elements who yet live - geo, anemo, dendro. Much more plentiful are what we call vishaps. They are young but could one day evolve into a true dragon. They are prevalent in many elements. I believe we would call both of your dragons vishaps. Certainly, Andarna, though I'm unsure about Tairn."
